Speculations Arise as SPAR Supermarket Closes Temporarily

International retail chain SPAR has temporarily shut its branch at Ceddi Plaza in the Central Business District of Abuja, with a notice at the entrance attributing the closure to some technical fault in power.

However, there are speculations that the closure may be a result of a row over unpaid bills between the store and the management of the plaza.

A representative of Ceddi Plaza, who asked for anonymity debunked the rumour, saying that there wasn’t more to the closure than what the sign on the entrance of the store says.

“What is on the door is what it is,” she said. “They have a major electrical problem, and once that is sorted out they will open.”

She explained that SPAR was the only store affected because it had more appliances than other stores located in the plaza.

The Supervisor of SPAR, Mr Samson Ekenele, also denied the existence of a disagreement with the management of Ceddi Plaza and also maintained that the closure was due to technical issues and will probably reopen next week.

Hundreds of customers unaware of the situation have been turning up at the store, only to be redirected to its branch at Aminu Kano Crescent in Wuse 2 by a standby security officer.
